Auxesia, A Prayer of Summertime, acrylic on paper, 8” x 12”

In Greek mythology, Auxesia is a goddess of growth and fertility, revered as a goddess of increase and agricultural prosperity. Her name literally means “increase” or “growth,” and she was worshipped in various regions of ancient Greece, often alongside Damia, another fertility figure. She was associated with the Horae (goddesses of the seasons), particularly as a personification of spring’s renewal and summer’s abundance.

Gesture of the Hand: In this depiction, the two extended fingers evoke blessing, invocation, as well as benediction, thus the duality of growth and decay—a subtle nod to her connection with Persephone, who bridges life and the underworld.

Crown of Flowers: This is a direct emblem of spring and fertility, reinforcing Auxesia’s role as a bringer of seasonal renewal and agricultural bounty.

The intent is for the enigmatic gaze and serene demeanor evoke a sense of quiet power and inner knowing, qualities befitting a goddess who governs the subtle forces of growth and prosperity.
